On the morning of August 26, 2026 at 8:37 AM NST, a glacial collapse above the Bhotekoshi River in the Lhende catchment straddling the Nepal-Tibet border sent a debris torrent downstream. Within minutes, communications towers were destroyed and emergency responders were issuing door to door warnings.
